In our Spanish II class we had been learning about other countries and wanted to take a deep dive into each country. In groups, we were to pick a Spanish country. My group chose Venezuela, a larger spanish country. With this assignment we had to pick three genres of research and delve into what those topics correlated to within our country. My group went over topics such as food, entertainment, art, culture, geography, and current events.
The project required us to use our global awareness 21st century skill. By researching a country that is so different from ours, as a group, we were able to grasp just how other countries vary from even something as trivial as their everyday lives.
With this assignment I was very proud of our team as a whole, and our class presentation (not available). By researching Venezuela we were able to learn so much, the good, the bad, and the ugly.
With the limited knowledge we receive about other countries in our everyday lives, our global awareness 21st century skill was further developed because we covered a variety of topics in depth about our spanish country Venezuela.
Coordination as well as the creation of our poster was the most difficult. This was challenging because with our limited resources at home we had to organize our team well enough so we could complete the poster on time for our presentation.
If I were to start over, the only thing I would change is the quality of our poster. While it turned out nice with our limited resources with more time, we would have been able to make an even better masterpiece that could capture the beauty of Venezuela.
In the past we have done a project where we have “traveled” to a Spanish speaking country with a budget of $10,000. With this project however we had to dive deeper in order to capture the essence of our chosen country.
In the future I can remember to keep an open mind when accepting different perspectives of countries all around the world.
